As part of our time in Africa we have had the story ‘Handa’s Surprise.’ The children have been weaving paper like the basket in the story. They have also been printing with fruit. The children tasted pineapple, mango, oranges, banana, avocado and passion fruit from the story. Later the children did a survey to find out their friends’ favourite fruit.
The children have been learning all about the Amazon rain forest and the amazing creatures that live there. In continuous provision we have been playing in the explorers station and our Amazon small world area, making birds and snakes in playdough and painting beautiful animals in the creative area. In maths we have been investigating length using different things to measure with.
The children have had a fantastic week learning about the Arctic and comparing it to our country and climate. We have learned about the Inuit people and their way of life and the Arctic animals. In continuous provision the children have built igloos in the construction area and small igloos out of sugar cubes in small world. We have enjoyed playing in our Arctic role play area and making cold pictures using colour mixing in the creative area. We have investigated ice in our water area and used shaving foam to practise writing our name. We have caught snowflakes on mittens to write number sentences. We have even had a snowball fight in the school hall!
